The Way Jesus Communicates…

John 4:31 In the meantime the disciples kept urging Him, “Rabbi, eat something.” 32 But He said, “I have food to eat that you don’t know about.” 33 The disciples said to one another, “Could someone have brought Him something to eat?” 34 “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work,” Jesus told them.35 “Don’t you say, ‘There are still four more months, then comes the harvest’? Listen to what I’m telling you: Open your eyes and look at the fields, for they are ready for harvest. 36 The reaper is already receiving pay and gathering fruit for eternal life, so the sower and reaper can rejoice together. 37 For in this case the saying is true: ‘One sows and another reaps.’ 38 I sent you to reap what you didn’t labor for; others have labored, and you have benefited from their labor.”

It’s hard to follow Jesus, to understand what He is addressing, when mostly the questions and the answers do not really match! The statement He makes, makes you puzzle all day long and sometimes even question the fact if He understands what you just said!

I mean, it was a perfect legal suggestion: Rabbi, eat something! Since we where with Him all day, no food was served for hours and so… the most logic thing would be to eat!

But He said... and when He says something, you better activate your spirit instead of your common sense! When you try to understand what He says with your fleshy ears, there is no way you will grasp the depth of His answers.

Just a couple of minutes ago they found Him speaking with “this woman” and during the conversation they conditioned their mind into a rejecting obstacle, missing the beauty of what happened there at that well. With all their cultural strongholds they would never be able to understand the real communication and spiritual impartation that happened, so when the woman left, they suggested Jesus to go back to business…

Just watch the words in the meantime in verse 31… just three little words that revealed their inner condition.

27 Just then His disciples arrived, and they were amazed that He was talking with a woman. Yet no one said, “What do You want?” or “Why are You talking with her?” They were amazed, unpleasantly surprised and it took them some effort not even to rebuke Him!

Walking with Jesus (which is another thing than being a christian) reveals your heart condition, your inability to understand, your pride that is build by culture and the strongholds that blocks your spiritual understanding. The way He communicates, when you dare to start walking with Him -instead of watching Him from a distance while being a christian- confronts you, but meanly enlarge your spirit for receiving.

Just a bold confession… I don’t think that the world needs another church-going-watching-from-a-distance- doing-just-your-own-thing-christian! It is time you start walking with Him and stepping into the wonderful vulnerable position of this mirror-presenting Jesus! The great thing is that behind the mirror is always a loving, saving, elevating, uplifting and building Rabbi who called you because He believe in you!

Reading the moments of Communication in the Gospels, helps you to “listen” again, when He speaks! Those simple every day moments when life present itself and He comes and elevates it into a learning moment! The moment you start walking, it takes you out of the benches in the building, into the life you live. It connects every minute of your being and weaves it into an accurate up-to-date follower of Christ.

When they would hit the pause button and have left for a simple lunch, they would have missed the most beautiful moment of the day, when the village came to meet Jesus. They would have missed the most beautiful statement of the day: “We no longer believe because of what you said, for we have heard for ourselves and know that this really is the Savior of the world.”
