About the “Humbling Ourself”!

Although the announcement (of course) was meant to be encouraging, it (again) made me worry about how we come together and start citing the well known verse:
2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV) …if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

I will not go deeper into the “announcement” as it only got my attention and helped me to evaluate the process of the last couple of weeks as I have been writing about it in my former post. It is where the “word” dropped and made me think.

humble |ˈhʌmb(ə)l|adjective (humblerhumblest)
having or showing a modest or low estimate of one’s importance: I felt very humble when meeting her• (of an action or thought) offered with or affected by a modest estimate of one’s importance: my humble apologies.
of low social, administrative, or political rank: she came from a humble, unprivileged background.
(of a thing) of modest pretensions or dimensions: he built the business empire from humble beginnings.

How in the world can we humble ourself, how can we make ourself into “low estimate of my importance”, how can we get to “low social, administrative or political rank”, or even create “modest pretensions or dimensions”?

As we struggled and honestly started to ask the Lord about the Why’s and How’s of certain situations, about the absence of the coming through of Promises through personal needs that have been expressed, it mainly got the form of this inner cry, acknowledging that there is no way we can change the situations in our own strength, with our own resources. The cry becomes even more dramatic since we “know” that we are supposed to be the head and not the tale, to be in control and live in provision, as the Word is telling us. The “taking it by force” attitudes somehow came to a dramatic closure, landing with the need and gathering as the body of Christ.

And than, the “if My people…” word comes in and than the limitation of our “position” becomes clear since the “being the head and not the tale” and all those other amazing encouragements and “positional” words are only and only lived from the understanding that comparing to Him, we are “nothing”. Our “thoughts” are mostly not “His thoughts”, our “ways” are almost never “His ways”, and therefor, our actions, our way to solve the problems, the needs, are seldom His actions. So we gather, with a proud heart (although not recognised as such) and cite the Word but miss the point!

2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV) …if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Called by My Name
Isaiah 44:5 This one will say, ‘I am the Lord’s’; another will call himself by the name of Jacob; still another will write on his hand, ‘The Lord’s, and name himself by the name of Israel.”
I wish I had a deeper insight about this “My people” and “Called by My name”, but at least we know that we belong and not only say “Lord, Lord” but do the will of the Father. (Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.)

Humble themselves, Pray, Seek,Turn
The hardest part of all of this, is that we know that, being a follower of Christ means moving (following Him) in the opposite direction of everything around us. We know that it is about acknowledging our “postion” towards the Most High God, who is our Father, who calls us His children and than still, we bow down, understanding that we (through the Spirit) can only Worship Him from our stepped down position of owning our life! Stepping back, knowing that He resist the pride! (Prov. 3:33 The Lord’s curse is on the household of the wicked, but He blesses the home of the righteous; 34 He mocks those who mock, but gives grace to the humble.)

So, this is not about those who will gather next week as leaders in Stockholm, although I humbly recommend to read “A story of Importance“! This is about us and me and close to home, were we willingly handover, turn back, never ever throwing the promises into His face and never ever demanding what we think we “rightfully own”! At least not with the attitude of “earning” and “rights” and whatever attitude has taken us slowly over the years.

Allowing the process, as written in the post about brokenness, to get us to the place of total trust. I have been written my “What do we miss Father?” last week with an honest and desperate heart, and I continue to seek the answers as the controversial is surrounding us, but knowing Him, being called by His name, gives me all the right to step down to not know and at least live from “The Trusting Him”!

Humbling Myself, where I know my “position” as a son of the Most High!

So, when the job is still absent, the wallet is still empty, the houses are still not sold, the promises are still not fulfilled and circumstances are still not good… Our only answer is humbling ourself through Lifting Him up (Worshipping).

Habakkuk 3:17-19(HCSB)

17 Though the fig tree does not bud
and there is no fruit on the vines,
though the olive crop fails
and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen
and no cattle in the stalls,
18 yet I will triumph in Yahweh;
I will rejoice in the God of my salvation!
19 Yahweh my Lord is my strength;
He makes my feet like those of a deer
and enables me to walk on mountain heights!
