But I found no one…

“I searched for a man among them who would repair the wall and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land so that I might not destroy it, but I found no one.” ‭Ezekiel‬ ‭22:30‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

“And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers. Otherwise, I will come and strike the land with a curse.” ‭‭Malachi‬ ‭4:6‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

There is an astonishing similarity in those 2 verses. For those who think enemy, resistance and attacks it is even more astonishing since there is no enemy included in the quoted verses! The destroying and striking part has nothing to do with “the enemy” since the only enemy that is mentioned here is our disobedience to God who will, because of that, destroy, strike and curse!

Up till now I have wondered where I differ from the black boy enemy thinking although I have to be honest, of course there is an involvement. My missing out in partnering with the devil chasers is that in the Bible God is more dealing with us, mankind than the devil, satan!

So, back to the verses mentioned it might be a wise thing to read the preceding verses of the whole chapter of Ezekiel 22. Wow, seeking for a man to repair the wall, to stand in the gap ON BEHALF OF THE LAND! Looking out for someone that is different from the mentality of the culture, the nation, the way of acting, the Church!

My dear friends, although prayer and intercession is very involved in this, it is not the only effort that is needed. There is the need of standing up, taking action, be in the arena of society, change the rules, build the wall of protection and stand in the gaps! There is the time of Pray and Work!

And, by the way, standing in the gap is not a sparetime activity but a fulltime effort until… Until the wall is repaired and safe again. I am always driving by this house where no one really lives and since it is the time of early darkness, you see the time clock on the lights of that house. On the second, every day, on and off! For the superficial observer the lights are on, someone is home but with a closer look, you know the house is an easy target. As christians we have the tendency to act likewise. Lights on, lights of, Sunday after Sunday and it seems someone is home, but… by now we know that the easy target resulted in stealing most of the “precious, valuable treasures of the church”!

Back to the verses…

But I found no one, as you hear the desperation in God’s voice. Please step in, please react, there is still time as I absolutely don’t want to destroy and to strike! God is urging us even now to step in and don’t hold back. To repair instead of fleeing, to involve instead of redraw!

My point
So much to do as we know that time is sharp and God’s judgements are so close. We see the wickedness increasing but we still can do so much to turn the tide! We still have to present, subdue, repair and rebuild. There are still generations to be born, promises to be fulfilled and a place of God’s habitation to be build. Let’s make our list of TO DO’s instead of reading the doom lists of their doing! As our nice, comfortable church life is challenged, I think it is time to get to the essential: The Church of Christ instead of the Church of Christianity!

By the way, it says on behalf of the land, not on behalf of the christians in the land!
