This is what I do often, rereading my blogs like 3 or 4 year ago, just to check my insights at that moment and the developments today!
Februari 2015, I posted this blog and reviewing the time past since, I can honestly say that so much has happened (even) for the better. 3 years on and the hunger is more visible than ever and… the way the Body of Christ is connecting and reacting is amazing and encouraging!

“I, Yahweh, have called You for a righteous purpose, and I will hold You by Your hand. I will keep You and appoint You to be a covenant for the people and a light to the nations, in order to open blind eyes, to bring out prisoners from the dungeon, and those sitting in darkness from the prison house. I am Yahweh, that is My name; I will not give My glory to another or My praise to idols. The past events have indeed happened. Now I declare new events; I announce them to you before they occur.” (Isaiah 42:6-9 HCSB)
“You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.” (Exodus 20:4)
The essence of idolatry is the entertainment of thoughts about God that are unworthy of Him. It begins in the mind and may be present where no overt act of worship has taken place. (A.W. Tozer)
O, Lord God Almighty, not the God of the philosophers and the wise but the God of the prophets and apostles; and better than all, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, may I express Thee unblamed?
They that know Thee not may call upon Thee as other than Thou art, and so worship not Thee but a creature of their own fancy; therefore enlighten our minds that we may know Thee as Thou art, so that we may perfectly love Thee and worthily praise Thee.
In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
On that very night the Lord said to him, “Take your father’s young bull and a second bull seven years old. Then tear down the altar of Baal that belongs to your father and cut down the Asherah pole beside it. Build a well-constructed altar to the Lord your God on the top of this rock. Take the second bull and offer it as a burnt offering with the wood of the Asherah pole you cut down.” (Judges 6:25-26 HCSB)
See, I have appointed you today over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and demolish, to build and plant. (Jeremiah 1:10 HCSB)
So you really are ‘hungry for God’? Which ‘God’ then are you talking about?
I live in a nation where God is mostly about Grace. It is reflected in every part of society and causes people to fool around with the character of God. It is a mix between the (very demanding) traditions and the lagom ideology of socialism, mainly defined by the idea that there is no God and “mankind is the centre”! Where there is no vision, no real understanding about God, due to the fact that there is no longing to be taught, people create their own image of Him, an image that fits their lifestyle. So, when people start to get “hungry for more”, the image they carry and the bases of their religion causes them to start looking for the me-part like healing and prosperity and feeling good by burning candles. It is mainly the reason that it stops there, because when the soul is fulfilled, the hunger is met!
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you. (Matthew 6:33 HCSB)
This ‘hunger’ sets the tone of our prayers, where it is mainly about us, the food, the clothes, the unimportant “these things” which already are provided. That’s why the seeking of the Kingdom is so essential, the realm that beyond our immortal way of thinking and living.
Concerning Jeremiah 1:10 as well as the assigment given to Gideon, God is not really about ‘understanding our dillemma’s’ about the traditions, the strongholds, and the customs which are such an imporatant part of our identity. He is about breaking down and rebuilding, about removing radically the old and then doing the new.
I am on a journey in rethinking the delays by checking the ‘traditions’, the ‘carved images’ and the mixed mindset. The things that we created and keep alive but in the same time are keeping God from answering since we are addressing the substitute, the wrong God.
A helpfull guide for me is: The Knowledge of the Holy (audiobook).
